| Personal History | Inaya generally does not talk about her past beyond the last century or so. She claims it makes it difficult to relate to those around her when she talks about her childhood before the major events of the last few centuries. The major events of her life happened before most anyone she’s met was born, and as she’s put it behind her, she sees no reason to dredge it up. Inaya grew up with her younger sister and the two shared a deep love of history. After the Temporal Accords were signed, they applied as historical observers, and began helping to update historical records for both humanity and other allied cultures including their own. However, as the Cold War took over, their work was often cut short, and they were forced to retreat back to their own time, their research incomplete. Her sister would often attempt to go back out into the field, appearing the braver of the two, while Inaya stayed behind and searched for safer, noncontroversial time periods to observe. As their work progressed, Inaya found herself living in other time periods more often than her own, returning home only occasionally to see her family. The rare times she ran into her sister while working were joyous for her, although her sister always seemed distracted by her work. Inaya was in line for promotion to Senior Historian for her guild, was happy in her work, and, thus far, had avoided any major consequences of the war. Then, as the Temporal Cold War began to reach its climax, everything came crashing down. The death of her sister broke her and destroyed her love of time travel. She returned home without a word to anyone, resigned her position, left all technology behind, packed a bag of clothing and left home. She wanted to get as far away from the death of her sister as she could, and found herself at a monastery whose members had eschewed nearly all technology. She stayed with them, living off the grid, and earning her room and board by running their library and records room. She stayed there for nearly a century, missing the events of The Burn and its aftermath. When she heard what had happened, she realized that the galaxy was ill-prepared for a life without warp drive or technology and decided to bring some of what she’d learned back to the galaxy and rejoin society. She returned to the Federation as a civilian and gave herself a fresh start as a simple librarian. |
